LOL! So true. iTurds encodes things in some weird format (MP4) I think, so when you rip CD's they are automatically formatted to their system. Then if you try and send it to someone they can't open the damn thing unless they have iTurds as well AND if their computer is registered for that particular song. So shitty.
Same thing with movies...
I've posted several times about how "Digital Rights Management" fouls up the marketplace and turns regular folks into crooks not because they're doing anything differently, but by its very existence.
As it stands, I pay an irregularly-applied tax to compensate music management companies (not the artists--ever heard of an artist enthusing over how much money they make from "blank media levies"?) for alleged losses. So I see myself as having already paid any rights money required, and I download at will.
Also, since my musical taste sort of canalized around 1995, it's not like I'm ripping today's latest and greatest.
