I love the Savage Love podcast! I wish he would do it regularly. It's kind of hit or miss with him lately.
Well... as with 99% of articles about homosexuality, quotes about masturbation are about guys and only guys. Odd, when you consider that 53% of the world's population is female.

Savage was responding to a guy who was expressing a worry over his apparent preference for his hand over his wife. I think, in context, that use of the male pronoun would have been appropriate.
But look further--does the term "jerk it" have to be literal? Because if it's just slang for masturbation, then the term could apply to anyone, male, female, and those who have yet to make up their minds.
